The Chiropractors

Lucas Karayannis

I first learnt about Chiropactic as a teenager. A friend of mine’s flatmate was a Chiropractor and after watching him at work, I knew I had found my destiny. After completing the 5 year Chiropractic course (NSW University and Sydney College of Chiropractic) in 1986, I initially worked with two Chiropractors before setting up practice in Mascot. I have been in Mascot ever since.

During the late 1980’s/1990’s I tutored students at Sydney College of Chiropractic and then at Macquarie University. Later I became interested in providing Chiropractic care for the corporate world. This was a natural progression for me working in Mascot as I was already providing Chiropractic care for people from various companies in the area. At this time I was involved, on site and at my Centre, with companies such as Qantas, Groccon, Amcor, National Cables, Pilkington Glass and Kimberley-Clarke.

Besides my work here at Mascot Chiropractic Centre, I also facilitate Corporate Health and Wellness Programs.  I enjoy giving talks to schools, companies, groups and individuals about Chiropractic/Health related topics. As of 2012 I have again been coaching and mentoring Chiropractic students, new graduates and peers in practice protocols, clinical skills and patient interactions.

I am married to Melissa who is also my partner here at Mascot Chiropractic Centre. We have two beautiful daughters. Our eldest is studying Civil Engineering at Sydney University. Our youngest is studying Chiropractic at Macquarie University. I also enjoy the great outdoors and have a particular passion for water sports, especially fishing, sailing and waterskiing. I enjoy eating well, exercising regularly and being adjusted often.

I grew up in Adelaide where my dad was (now retired) a medical doctor. In my younger years, my mum had quite a major car accident and it was my Dad’s Chiropractor golf mate that played a major part in getting her back on track. I then chose a Chiropractor to complete my Year 10 work experience and from then I was ‘hooked’. I completed my Bachelor of Science at Adelaide University and then made the trek to Sydney to complete the 5 year course at Sydney College of Chiropractic in 1986.

After graduating I worked with a few other Chiropractors before purchasing a clinic in Guildford. I then sold that clinic to spend time at home with our newborn daughter. Subsequent to this came the motherhood juggle when I was home with our (eventually) two daughters and working part-time at our Mascot Centre. As our girls got older I added teaching at Sydney College of Chiropractic and then Macquarie University. I was also involved with Chiropractic in the corporate arena, dealing with companies such as Kimberley-Clarke, Amcor, Qantas and Pilkington Glass.

In 2002 Luke and I started  Jannali Chiropractic Centre.  I ran that Centre for 11 years but, sadly, had to sell it in late 2013 in order to rest a few accumulated injuries. So I am currently in a hiatus from clinical Chiropractic (apart from adjusting my family) but am still very involved in administration and management.

I am married to Lucas who is also my partner at Mascot Chiropractic Centre. My two beautiful daughters are studying at university. I enjoy boating, fishing, creating Bonsai and silver jewellery, and gourmet cooking. I am very interested in nutrition and lifestyle choices and enjoy receiving regular Chiropractic care.

I am a true local, growing up and living in the inner city suburb of Beaconsfield. I left school in 1977 and worked in the reception and clerical field over the next 8 years. I studied and completed courses in Welfare work and Childcare and spent 15 years working in childcare centres in Waterloo, Redfern and Botany. I then took on special needs roles in centres in Erskineville and Paddington. I have 3 adult children and a 4th in the form of my Shitzu Maltese dog named Wesley.

I joined the Mascot Chiropractic Team in 2003 and have really enjoyed watching the centre grow and develop, taking on new challenges as we meet the changing needs of health care.

I am the new kid on the block. I grew up in the south-western suburbs of Sydney until I was married, and my husband and I then moved to the Sutherland Shire where we live today. My career over the last 20 years has mainly been in the financial sector and focusing on customer service. I spent some time at home raising our 4 kids and renovating 2 homes. We are actively involved in our kids' sporting activities. I have a passion for giving back to our community and am thoroughly enjoying working in this small team dedicated to helping people lead healthy lives.
